Lefteris Economou (1930 – 2007)
Lefteris Economou studied at St Martin's School of Art in London from 1949 to 1950, the John Cass School of Art from 1950 to 1954 and Goldsmith's College of the University of London from 1954 1955. We worked as an art teacher in the Cyprus High Schools from 1955 until retirement.
He took part in a group exhibition in London in 1952 and he has been active in the art world since. He participated in group and international exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad: London 1955, 1968, Greece 1974, America, India, Europe, Egypt. In 1974 participated in the Salon International de Mai and in 1976 in the International Grafik in Germany and more. He was interested in subjects such as landscape, portraiture, genre painting and still-life compositions. He was mostly influenced by Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. His engravings are known for their sharply drawn features and high quality.
He also experimented with Neo-Impressionism, Expressionism and Cubism.
